REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR STARTUP WEEKEND PEEL HOSTED BY MICROSOFT CANADA

Startup Intensive Weekend June 6-8

Early Bird Registration Until May 19th

May 12, 2014 (Toronto, ON) – Calling all innovators and entrepreneurs, registration for the annual Startup Weekend Peel is now open. The startup intensive weekend will take place June 6-8, 2014 and will be hosted by Microsoft Canada. Janet Kennedy, President of Microsoft Canada will deliver the keynote speech.

Startup Weekend Peel is part of a global Startup Weekend movement. The intensive 54-hour events are where developers, designers, marketers, product managers and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products and launch startups, mostly in the web and software sectors. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with the opportunity for critical feedback.

In 2012, the winning team from Startup Weekend Peel, Matt Gardner and Mathieu Gosbee, participated in and won at Startup Weekend Toronto. They then went on to win the Global Startup Battle and are now up and running a business in Waterloo and Hamilton called Groupnotes. The idea behind Groupnotes was to create a collaboration platform that works for education, with a focus on the needs of professors and educators.

“The Startup Weekend events have a proven track record for success as demonstrated by Groupnotes,” said Charlene Nadalin, Co-organizer, Startup Weekend Peel. “There is a huge pool of talent in and around the Peel Region with many startup support services and resources. We look forward to seeing the next big idea that comes out of this 54-hour development weekend.”

One of the key focuses this year is to get more women to participate in the weekend and illustrate the great innovation that stems from true diversity in creative teams, building on game-changing ideas. Janet Kennedy, President, Microsoft Canada, is particularly excited about this aspect of the event. “Can’t wait to encourage more women to start tech companies!”

Interested participants can register at Peel.StartupWeekend.org. Those who register by May 19th qualify for the Early Bird Rate.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available through Startup Weekend Peel. For more information contact Charlene Nadalin at info@amintro.com or 647-669-1046.
